Lyft is Your Ride to Noise Pop 2016

Noise Pop 2016 has officially begun and we're excited to be the exclusive rideshare partner of the festival. Over the next two weeks, we'll be teaming up with our friends at Noise Pop to make sure our drivers are readily available at every one of the 20+ concerts around the Bay.

Now in its 24th year, Noise Pop is known for hosting the best new indie artists -- like The White Stripes, Modest Mouse, and The Johnsons -- right before they catapult to stardom. This year will be no exception as Kamasi Washington, Vince Staples, Bill Callahan, and many more have joined the lineup.

The only difference? Seamless transportation between each concert venue.

For new users, we're offering up to $10 off on your first 5 rides with the code NOISEPOP2016 ($50 free credit). Simply enter the code in the payment tab once you've downloaded the app and created a profile. Already a loyal rider? No worries, we've got #lyftlove for everyone. Visit our table to receive a special discount on your rides between concerts.

See you there!

Random Acts of Kindness Day

Happy National Random Acts of Kindness Day! (Yep, it's a thing.) We couldn't think of a better holiday to celebrate with our Lyft community.

Today, we're teaming up with Bloomthat to make Random Acts of Kindness Day extra special in SF, LA and NYC. We'll surprise passengers with bright pink (of course) bouquets as a way to spread the #LyftLove. Take a ride in these three cities on February 17th, and you could be surprised with a mini bouquet!

Need suggestions on how to be kind today? Here are a few ideas to get the kindness flowing:

  • Buy your Lyft driver coffee and a donut on your way to work!

  • Cook your roommate dinner. Props to you if it's not microwavable.

  • Send your mom flowers or a handwritten card.

  • Ask your passenger if you can play their favorite song for them. Complement their singing (even if it's a bit pitchy).

  • Send someone you love a quick text to let them know you're thinking about them. Kindness doesn't have to be bold, just thoughtful!

Need more inspiration? Take a look at some of our favorite #LyftLove stories that warmed our hearts.

When Dottie broke her leg and found herself unable to drive, the Lyft family lent a helping hand while she recovered.

Chakrit drove Gary to meet his girlfriend and then volunteered to capture a photo when he proposed. Talk about a good time to have a third wheel!

Kimberly learned that her Lyft driver had recently gone through an awful divorce. Kimberly, who knew firsthand how devastating divorce can be, gave her driver her ring as a symbol of hope for the future.

Melissa's passenger bought her a powerball ticket and promised to split the winnings 50/50 if she won.

When Lyft driver Jilson's passenger couldn't make it to the hospital in time to deliver her baby, he helped her deliver the little guy right in the back of his car. If that doesn't deserve a five star rating, we don't know what would!

Of course, some of the most meaningful acts of kindness are the "just because" moments that make your day a little brighter:

Need a little help being kind today? BloomThat is making it easy for you by giving you a 15% discount on online orders through 2/29 with code WEPINKYOU.

What are you doing to spread the #LyftLove? Let us know on Twitter, and we'll share our favorites.

Lyft and the Big Game

What a week! The giant beer trucks are retreating and the streets of SF are calming down, but chatter about the big game continues, so we're still celebrating all of the fun from last week here at Lyft HQ. Here's what we were up to.

We sent Jerry Rice undercover to surprise a few Bay Area passengers...and NO ONE recognized him. Maybe his dance moves threw people off. Or maybe it was the beard?

You can check out the full video here.

We also gave away four sets of tickets to the game on Sunday. Congratulations again Kim, Milan, John, and Lucy! We're pretty jealous that you got to see Beyonce, Chris Martin, and Bruno Mars in person.

Lyft is Now Your Ride in Tahoe

Forget the chains. Forget the traffic. Lyft is now live in Tahoe, everyone's favorite winter wonderland. Since Lyft is now making it easier to get around off the slopes, here are six awesome apres-ski spots to try in Tahoe:

Le Chamois at Squaw (aka "The Chammy"): Considered a must-visit at Squaw Valley, this watering hole has a great back porch, perfect for beer and pizza with friends. Pro-tip: it tends to fill up around 3 PM, so send someone ahead of time to stake out a table.

La Bamba in Truckee: What's better than Mexican food and margaritas after a long day on the slopes? Mexican food, margaritas, and deep fried ice cream. Enough said.

Himmel Haus in South Lake Tahoe: This festive German restaurant has a great selection of European beers and bavarian-inspired food, and weekly events include "Not Your Grandma's Bingo," trivia night, and live music.

Bridgetender in North Lake Tahoe: Four words: Death by waffle fries. Okay, four more: Hot rum butter beer.

Uncorked Wine Bar at Squaw, Truckee and Tahoe City: Fellow wine lovers, take note! You can order $10 wine flights and artisanal cheese platters at these three charming locations. 4 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday is ladies night and glasses of wine are only $4!

Mellow Fellow in Truckee: This tiny bar boasts over forty types of craft beer on tap and even offers corn hole and life-sized Jenga on the back porch. To sweeten the deal, giant pretzels from a nearby bakery are only $2.50.

To celebrate the launch, you can get $10 off your first ride in Tahoe with code LETITSNOW

View our coverage map to learn more about where we'll be in the Tahoe area. Lyft also just officially launched at the Reno-Tahoe Int'l Airport, so you can request a ride in the app whether you're flying in or out.

San Francisco Big Game Travel Tips

San Francisco's streets are total madness this week, so we thought it would be helpful to share a few transportation tips to get around the city. We consulted our traffic guru, David Mayer -- Regional West Coast Director at Lyft -- and put together a few tidbits to help make travel a little less stressful.

Pickup Locations:

  • The festivities at Justin Herman Plaza will close down a section of the Embarcadero from January 30th until February 7th. If you're looking for a pickup area from the Embarcadero BART station, we recommend heading southwest on Market Street past 1st Street. The best pickup locations are Stevenson and 2nd Street, Sutter and Montgomery, or Embarcadero and Folsom.

  • There will also be closures around the Moscone Center, so we recommend avoiding the area from Mission to Folsom and 3rd to 5th Street. Good places to request a Lyft ride are the north side of 3rd Street, 5th and Mission, or 5th and Folsom.

Busiest Travel Times:

  • The Embarcadero and Moscone Center will be busy every day from 8 AM to 10 PM, so we recommend avoiding these areas as much as possible. If you are heading to work near these locations, you should give yourself plenty of time and be prepared to walk the last block or two.

  • Nighttime concerts will take place at Pier 70 in the Dogpatch from February 4th through the 6th, so the surrounding area will be very congested between 5 PM and 12 AM.

Detour Routes:

  • Due to the closures mentioned above, the city has outlined a few detour routes to direct traffic. Embarcadero traffic will be diverted to Washington Street then from Battery to 1st Street. This will be particularly useful if you are heading to the Bay Bridge.

The very best advice we can give is to request early and avoid pickups near any major downtown festivities whenever you can. There are so many awesome events happening right in our backyard, but the reality is it may take a bit longer to get around, so give yourself plenty of time to get from A to B. Lyft drivers are well-informed of all road closures and will do their best to get you where you need to go in the safest and most efficient way.

Have fun out there!
