Lyft × Honest Dollar: Introducing Savings and Retirement Solutions for Lyft Drivers

We hear from drivers every day who use Lyft to help secure a bright future, from paying tuition to saving for a first home. Today, we’re excited to launch a partnership with Honest Dollar to deliver a first-of-its-kind solution for savings and retirement plans, too.

Honest Dollar is an easy, affordable investing platform built with independent contractors in mind. Starting today, everyone who drives on the Lyft platform can look forward to:

  • Exclusive discounts, with no hidden costs. Drivers will enjoy access to plans for just $3/month (compared to the non-driver rate of $8/month), without the complex fee structures found in many retirement plans.
  • Seamless transactions. Honest Dollar’s mobile app makes it easy to link a bank account for easy debits and credits, so drivers can invest on the go.
  • Financial education. Empowering drivers to make great investing choices, Honest Dollar also offers access to ongoing financial education, too.

Everyone has different reasons for driving and different goals for the future. It’s one of the things that makes Lyft great, and it’s what inspires us to continue creating innovative solutions to give our drivers greater peace of mind.

We’re excited to add to add Honest Dollar to our growing lineup of partnerships: eHealth, to give drivers easy access to the nation’s largest health insurance exchange; Allstate, to offer free or discounted roadside assistance; Verizon to cut down the costs of their devices and monthly cell phone bill; Intuit to help with tax preparation; and many more. We’re excited to keep up the momentum.

Lyft for Good: Drivers Donate to Austin AIDS Walk

One of our local drivers said it best: “Lyft brings Austinites together to do great things in the community.”

Whether it’s repairing flood damages to the park or delivering meals to homebound seniors, Austin Lyft drivers are always giving back. Just last weekend, they were at it again with the Austin AIDS Walk: raising more than four thousand dollars in donations, drivers volunteered their time and a portion of their tips to this noteworthy cause.

As part of an entirely self-led volunteer initiative, these outstanding drivers created the “Lyft Austin Weird” team to to raise awareness of and support AIDS Services of Austin. Last Sunday, drivers joined fellow Austinites to walk together in support of the cause.

For over a month prior, many of the drivers pledged up to 50% of the tips they made driving for Lyft (which you can track on their RideCares site), raising nearly $950 in tip donations alone. Along with the donations they’ve received voluntarily, they have collectively raised $4,136.20 to date — 83% of the way towards reaching their goal of $5K.

Looking ahead at the City Council’s discussions next week to determine the future of ridesharing, we’re excited to see our Austin drivers come together and give back to their local community.

*If you’d like to contribute to their cause, you can donate through their AIDS Walk Austin Fundraising Page.*

New: Colorful, Directional Cars in the Lyft App

You’ve gotta see it to believe it. With this latest update, our in-app cars match the color and direction of your driver’s ride.

Cars are now displayed from a bird’s-eye view, showing the direction they’re headed in real-time. Once you’re matched with a driver, the in-app car will update to reflect your car’s actual color, making it easy to identify which Ford Focus is your driver’s.

This update is our newest addition to the Lyft app, joining the other features we’ve designed to make your life a little easier.

Colorful, directional cars are now live for iOS and Android. Request a ride, then keep an eye out for your car’s lookalike.

The Happiest Tweets of October

Just wondering — did you even have a chance to breathe in October? The month was jam-packed giving three cheers for #VivaLyftVegas, going undercover with Kris Bryant, looking to the past and then going Back to the Future, listening to stories, paying for weddings and vacations, and partying with the undead. And somehow, you tweeted through it all. Here are your happiest moments of October.

That time you met a wise sage:

SF Drivers Deliver Disaster Kits To The Elderly

San Francisco drivers can’t stop giving back. Last month, more than forty Lyft drivers gathered to deliver disaster delivery kits to homebound Bay Area seniors, who are limited in their ability to purchase goods or prepare meals for themselves.

Lyft drivers teamed up with Meals on Wheels San Francisco and Gigwalk to distribute Disaster Preparedness Kits to homebound seniors. The drivers used the Gigwalk app to find the best directions, while also figuring out delivery routes for future MOWSF volunteers.

24% of seniors served by MOWSF have no other source of food.

We look forward to seeing how other drivers reconnect people and communities by joining volunteer initiatives across the country.

The Lyft for Good program grew from self-led volunteer initiatives we've seen from Lyft drivers in their communities. Lyft drivers have gone above and beyond in communities nationwide to perform these acts of kindness, so we wanted to support those efforts by creating a channel for even more drivers and passengers to give back in the future. Every few weeks, our Lyft for Good series will highlight these remarkable drivers and their impact in their communities.

Alert Your Channels: You Can Request Lyft Rides in Slack

@here: Now you can request a Lyft ride from the Slack app. We’ve partnered with Slack to make getting a ride easier than ever, so you can spend more time on what matters. Just type a few commands into Slack, and your ride is on its way.

How It Works
