Uber and Lyft Launch in Las Vegas

Sin City gets a huge transportation facelift early this week as ridesharing services Uber and Lyft both launched yesterday.

Uber operated in the city for about a month beginning last October but was quickly banned.

Due to the high taxi presence in the city, it wasn’t looking good for ridesharing in the tourist mecca.

However, both Uber and Lyft have now obtained the necessary operating permits and are now taking rides!

Considering Las Vegas gets over 3.5 million visitors each month, this is good news for both companies.

Uber is only offering their UberX platform so far, but will be offering UberXL soon.

They are also servicing the Reno area, which launched at the same time as their Las Vegas platform.

Their pricing structure will echo that of similar areas.

According to Uber’s website, sample fare estimates include the following:

  • UNLV to Downtown Las Vegas:  $13-17
  • UNLV to Summerlin:  $34-45
  • Downtown Las Vegas to Summerlin:  $36-48
  • Downtown Las Vegas to Henderson:  $39-52
  • Henderson to Summerlin:  $63-84

Lyft was right there with them, launching a mere hour or so after Uber.

They plan to have 2,500 active cars statewide within their first two years of operation.

As of now, their standard rides and SUV option are available for use.

Pricing structures also seem to echo that of similar cities.

If you’re new to either platform, you can get your first ride for free by using a Lyft promo code or Uber promo code for vegas when setting up your payment information.
